IVF STEPS-Dr Prashant Joshi IVF Specialist Doctor /Fertility Specialist at Jayanagar Bangalore

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process of assisted reproduction that helps individuals and couples who are struggling with fertility issues. The IVF process involves several steps, including: Ovarian stimulation: In the first step of the IVF process, the woman is given medications to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This is done to increase the chances of success in the next steps. Egg retrieval: Once the follicles in the ovaries have matured, the eggs are retrieved through a minor surgical procedure called transvaginal ultrasound-guided egg retrieval. The eggs are then placed in a special fluid and incubated. Sperm collection: At the same time, the male partner is asked to provide a semen sample, which is collected through masturbation. Fertilization: The eggs and sperm are then combined in a laboratory dish, and the fertilization process begins. In some cases, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be used to ensure fertilization. Embryo development: The fertilized eggs (now called embryos) are monitored for several days to ensure that they develop properly. Embryo transfer: The final step in the IVF process is embryo transfer. The embryos are transferred into the woman's uterus through a thin catheter, and the woman is then monitored for signs of pregnancy. Pregnancy test: Approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to determine if the IVF process was successful. Overall, the IVF process can take several weeks to complete, and it can be physically and emotionally demanding for those involved. However, for many couples who have struggled with fertility issues, IVF can be a life-changing solution that helps them achieve their dreams of starting a family.
